Glynn developed a healthy interest in health and safety long before he ever decided to take it up as a profession. As a 2nd Dan black belt in karate, he taught unarmed combat and personal security techniques for many years for one of the largest clubs in Europe at the time (Kobe-Osaka). As a team manager and international karate referee, safety had to be managed if serious injuries were to be avoided. Taking on the role as an Occupational Health and Safety Consultant was a natural extension to being a self defence instructor as the workplace can be way more dangerous than the urban jungle.
With years of hands on experience in activities such as martial arts, pistol shooting, rock climbing, hill walking, sailing, skiing, mountain-biking, water-skiing, scuba diving, motor biking, hill running, etc., Glynn has learned first hand how to balance the appropriate level of control against the level of risk. Life is a constant battle of risk versus reward and nothing prepares you better than hands on experience.
Having worked in the business for so long, over 30 years, Glynn totally understands the people, their problems and their needs. He has gained the respect of production staff for his pragmatic approach and ‘can do’ attitude.
Glynn believes that the time, effort and money spent on health and safety should be commensurate with the risks. This means that risks must be judged carefully and with a common sense approach to ensure budgets are not wasted unnecessarily.
Tony MacKinnon began working in the industry in 2011 and has been a great support to the company. He is a highly qualified safety practitioner and having come from a construction background, he is our ‘expert’ when it comes to all aspects of safety during the construction of sets, including the minefield of CDM regulations that need to be complied with. His witty demeanour is always appreciated when things get stressful which makes him very popular.
Mairi Ritchie started working with us in 2014 and has clocked up quite a few productions in that time. She worked with BBC Drama for several years before she took an interest in managing
safety. Mairi is also married to a well known lighting gaffer so has a lot of friends in the industry and is very well liked.
Margot Henderson, an experienced and successful project manager, manages the office and assists Glynn in fullfilling clients needs.
